I began dancing at the Dance Collective when I was a junior in highschool, although I had worked with Ally on shows previously. I was incredibly nervous, being new to dance but the environment that Ally and her teachers created alleviated any worry or anxiety I had. I felt like I could make mistakes, and look silly, without being judged.
Not only that, but Ally and her teachers give such detailed correction. The thing that sets the dance collective apart, I think, is the guest artists brought in on a regular. This supplemental class furthered my dance education, whilst also giving me knowledge about the professional performing arts industry. One time, Ally had brought in Ben Cook to do a jazz master class. At this point, I was able to do a double on either side, but could not for the life of me execute a triple. During the masterclass, I focused on everything Ally had told me, and everything Ben Cook was telling us, and somehow I did it. In a year I went from barely being able to do a box step to doing a triple in class.
I would not have been able to do this without the Dance Collective. I cannot recommend it enough, even if you are only able to take one class a week, do it, you will not regret it!!
